Community

ENSOC has a proud history of creating the biggest and best social events on campus – something which is epitomised by the sheer number of large scale events that we run each and every year. No other club provides such a wide range of different events for such affordable prices, and with the guarantee of great times. A brief rundown of our different events can be found below:

Pink Shirt Day

Yearly ENSOC takes part in the nationwide pink shirt day. The ENSOC committee, along with many other clubs and departments on campus, wear our pink shirts to promote inclusivity and acceptance on campus. We encourage as many students as possible to wear pink and stand up against bullying. More details about the cause can be found on the Pink Shirt Day website here: https://www.pinkshirtday.org.nz/

Charity Run Challenge

Developed during the Covid-19 lockdown, the charity run challenge is a month-long event where we encourage our members to run as many km’s as possible. We use the app Strava to monitor how many km’s have been run. At the end of the month, we donate 50c per km run (up to $1000). This event kicks off with the ENSOC exec running for 24 hours straight! In 2021, we raised over $2200 for the Mental Health Foundation!

ENJOX

On top of selling just pens and calc-pad at the ENSOC shop, we also sell undies! ENJOX are a great way to show your support for ENSOC, whilst supporting a noble cause. Money raised from this initiative is donated to the Movember Foundation.

Momay

This is ENSOC’s annual fundraiser for men’s health. Due to how the uni year plays out, we students don’t get to spend much time at uni during November. So, we decided to start growing our Mo’s in May. This is an event that has been around for many years. This year, we are in talks with the college of engineering to get as many lecturers as possible on board. On top of this, we will be hosting competitions to see who can raise the most money, with the winner getting some sick prizes! In 2021, we raised $1440, this all went towards Men’s Health NZ.

Other Initiatives

ENSOC is always willing to help in the community. We often find ways to give our time, resources and old stock (e.g. t-shirts, paper, etc.) to groups in the community.
